How a charter school with a zone works
The school’s About Us page says it is a tuition-free public charter school governed by Renaissance Charter School Inc. and a member of the Charter Schools USA (CSUSA) family. Its FAQ answers the questions families of the old Warrington Middle zone asked:
- Admission: students zoned for Warrington Middle are also zoned for Warrington Prep and are guaranteed a seat, but families must register in the school’s own system.
- Buses: free transportation continues, with routes set with the district.
- Costs: no tuition; meals and extracurricular activities cost what they did at the district school. CSUSA provides three uniform shirts and an iPad for every student.
- Special education: the school follows the same IEP process as the district.
Families outside the zone can apply through the school’s enrollment page. Its home page says it is accepting applications for the 2026-27 school year, including ninth grade.
Enrollment and teachers
- Federal count: 559 students in the 2024-25 school year, with 32 full-time-equivalent classroom teachers, according to the NCES directory, which lists it as a charter school serving grades 6 to 8 that year. That is about 17 students per teacher.
- State figure: the school’s state report card carries current enrollment by grade and student group; it is an interactive dashboard that could not be read for this page.
State report card
Florida gave Warrington Preparatory Academy a C in its 2026 school grades, after a C in 2025 and a D in 2024. The school earned 50% of the points possible, according to the Florida Department of Education’s 2026 school grades file, which grades it as a middle school. The file lists all of its students as economically disadvantaged.
| 2026 school grade measure | Result |
|---|---|
| School grade | C (50% of points) |
| English language arts achievement | 43% |
| English language arts learning gains | 50% |
| Math achievement | 42% |
| Math learning gains | 51% |
| Science achievement | 37% |
| Social studies achievement | 53% |
| Middle school acceleration | 70% |
Florida grades schools A to F on the share of possible points earned across these measures. Achievement is the share of tested students on grade level; learning gains is the share who improved from the year before. For a middle school, A is 64% of points or more, B is 57% to 63% and C is 44% to 56%, the state’s file says.
Attendance zone and feeder schools
Type any address and ZIP code into the district’s Find Your School lookup to see its zoned schools for 2026-27; for the old Warrington Middle zone it returns Warrington Preparatory Academy as the middle school.
We ran one residential parcel from each of 347 blocks of the city through that lookup, weighted by the 22,294 homes the Escambia County Property Appraiser lists inside the city limits. About 9% were zoned for Warrington Prep, on the west side of the city. Most of those were in the Global Learning Academy zone, with a few blocks zoned for West Pensacola, Weis or Warrington elementary schools. Every one was zoned for Pensacola High. Our Westside guide found the middle school there depends on the street: Warrington Prep or J.H. Workman Middle.
Calendar and bell times
Warrington Prep posts its own 2026-27 school calendar (PDF); the calendar notes that CSUSA schools are not required to follow the district calendar, so check it for breaks and early release days instead of the district’s. The school closed Friday, Oct. 9, for Isaias and said in an Oct. 7 advisory that it planned to reopen as normal Monday, Oct. 12, with a final word by 7 p.m. Sunday on its website and School Messenger.
Bell times. Doors open at 9:05 a.m., and students are dismissed from their classrooms at 4:15 p.m., the school’s arrival and dismissal page says. Car riders and walkers are called first, then bus riders.
High school and programs
The school’s high school page says it added ninth grade in fall 2025 and will enroll grades 6 to 10 in fall 2026, 6 to 11 in fall 2027 and 6 to 12 in fall 2028. Its high school pathways are a standard diploma, the Cambridge AICE Diploma, dual enrollment, a WPA STAR pathway and digital design. The About Us page names digital industry certification, drone programs and gaming and coding certification, and calls WPA a “Dedicated Apple School.” Its sports page says the school is building its sports and clubs and plans to add more.
