Pensacola’s electricity comes from Florida Power & Light (FPL). The city’s 311 page lists FPL as the electric utility, and FPL serves the Panhandle through its Northwest Florida region. If your power bill comes from another company, report outages to the company on your bill.

Hurricane Isaias
FPL said Oct. 9 that Hurricane Isaias was expected to make landfall along the Florida Panhandle that evening as a strong hurricane. The utility said it had about 14,000 restoration workers in place across the Panhandle, including crews from 17 states, with command centers in Pensacola and Juno Beach.
By Saturday, Oct. 10, the city said the storm had moved on but that downed trees, power lines and other hazards remained. Its road alert lists dozens of intersections with debris or unsafe conditions and flags several with power problems as well: “17th and Avery,” “14th and Brainerd” and “12th and Jordan.” The city asked residents and visitors to stay off the roads so crews can clear them.

Report it
- Online or by phone. Report at FPL.com or call 800-468-8243, the number in FPL’s Oct. 9 release. FPL’s contact page lists the same outage line, available any time.
- On the app. Text the word “App” to MyFPL (69375) for a download link to the FPL app, which shows outage information.
- Check the map. The Power Tracker shows outages and restoration information.
FPL said customers would receive updates by automated calls and text messages. It also posts restoration news on X and Instagram at @insidefpl and on Facebook at @fplconnect, where its Northwest Florida Storm Center says it streams its news conferences. The Storm Center also links storm preparation tips for homes and businesses and a page of resources and assistance after a storm.
Stay safe
From FPL’s Oct. 9 release:
- Stay far away from downed power lines, flooding and debris, and assume every line is energized.
- Treat an intersection with a dark traffic signal as a four-way stop. Florida law requires it.
- Never run a generator inside a home or garage. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
- FPL has guides on how it restores power and how to recognize FPL workers.
