What is there

The art show. It is juried: the festival says it gets more than 600 applications a year, and jurors who see the work without the artists’ names pick more than 200 to exhibit. Artists compete for $25,000 in prize money across ceramics, drawing, fiber and leather, glass, jewelry, mixed media, oil and acrylic, photography, printmaking, sculpture, watercolor and wood, according to the art show page. Sunshine Artist magazine ranked it the 18th best art festival in the country in 2024, based on artists’ reviews, the festival says.

Heritage arts. Demonstrations of traditional crafts and trades, including woodcarving, engraving, spinning and weaving.

The Student Art Show displays more than 2,000 pieces by elementary, middle and high school students from Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.

The 2026 Invited International Artist is Mandy Bangerter, a textile artist and teacher from the Isle of Wight in the United Kingdom.

Food. The food court opens early with cinnamon rolls and coffee, then serves Tex-Mex, barbecue, Asian, Cajun, American and Greek food, a raw bar, grilled sandwiches, desserts and ice cream.

Parking, the trolley and getting there

“Parking is a challenge in downtown Pensacola,” the festival’s visitor page says. It points to:

Trolley. Winterfest runs its trolley service during the festival.

Handicap parking is at Bartram Park. Enter from Main Street at Barracks Street and show your permit to the police officer at the street closure.

Driving in. From Interstate 10, take Exit 12 to I-110 south toward downtown, then the Garden Street exit (Exit 1C) toward the historic district. Turn left on South Tarragona Street; Government Street is three blocks on, and Seville Square is a block east. From the east along the coast, come in on U.S. 98 over the Pensacola Bay Bridge, known locally as the Three Mile Bridge; U.S. 98 becomes East Gregory Street. Turn left on Alcaniz Street; Seville Square is four blocks south. Live traffic is at FL511.com or by calling 511.

What to know

  • No pets. A City of Pensacola ordinance, Section 4-2-33(b), bars pets from outdoor festivals.
  • Free to get in, so the only costs are food, parking and anything you buy. Festival posters and T-shirts are on sale on site.
  • Busy weekend downtown. The air show at Naval Air Station Pensacola runs Nov. 6-7 the same weekend; allow extra time on the roads.

A little history

The festival began in 1972 with a group of art patrons, and the first one was held in September 1973 in the parking lot of the old Municipal Auditorium at the south end of Palafox Street, where Plaza de Luna is now, according to the festival’s history page. It moved to Plaza Ferdinand and then to Seville Square. It has been canceled twice: in 2004 after Hurricane Ivan and in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
