Dog-friendly Pensacola: city dog parks at Bayview and Roger Scott, two leashed dog beaches on Pensacola Beach, a bayfront patio and the leash rules.
Last checked Oct. 10, 2026. Rules come from the City of Pensacola’s park regulations, the Santa Rosa Island Authority and the National Park Service; places from their own pages.
Pensacola has two city dog parks, two leashed dog beaches on Pensacola Beach and miles of park paths where a leashed dog is welcome. The rules change at each line on the map: the city, Escambia County on Pensacola Beach and the National Park Service at the Gulf Islands National Seashore each set their own.

The leash rules
City of Pensacola parks. The city’s park regulations say all pets must be on a leash unless they are inside a designated dog park, and owners must clean up after their pets. City parks are open sunrise to sunset unless posted. The full rules are in the city’s code of ordinances.
Pensacola Beach. Escambia County ordinances (Chapter 10, Article 1) allow dogs only at the two designated dog beaches, leashed at all times, and Florida requires a current rabies tag to be visible on every dog there, according to the Santa Rosa Island Authority. Owners who leave a pet unattended in a vehicle may face criminal charges.
Gulf Islands National Seashore. Pets must be on a leash no longer than six feet. They are welcome on trails, multi-use paths and park roads, but not on any park beach, in water less than five feet deep, inside forts, pavilions, fishing piers or visitor centers, or on top of historic structures, according to the National Park Service.

Dog beaches on Pensacola Beach
The Santa Rosa Island Authority runs two dog parks on the Gulf, open to leashed dogs only:
- West end, Parking Lot 21.5 (21E on the island map), the first lot past the last condos on the Gulf, on Fort Pickens Road.
- East end, Parking Lot 28.5 (28B on the map), the first lot past Portofino, on Via de Luna.
Both are open sunrise to sunset, except during sea turtle nesting season, May 1 to Oct. 31, when they open at 7 a.m. Doggie bags, bins and wipes are provided. Every other beach and park on the island, including Casino Beach, is off limits to dogs.
Patios
Jaco’s Bayfront Bar and Grille, at the end of South Palafox Street over the Palafox Pier marina, says its patio is dog-friendly. 850-432-5226.
Ask before you sit down with a dog anywhere else; we add patios here when a restaurant says so on its own page.
Events for dogs
Some events say no pets: Beach-O-Ween on Pensacola Beach allows service animals only, and Bands on the Beach does not allow pets. Check each event’s page before bringing a dog.
After Hurricane Isaias
Downed trees and lines are still being cleared across the city. Keep dogs on a short leash, away from debris piles and any downed line. Report hazards in parks to 311.
Related: parks and trails, walking and biking trails, brunch and free things to do.
